College of the Redwoods (CR) is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) located at 10 Commercial Boulevard, Suite 204, Novato, CA  94949, (415) 506-0234. The ACCJC is an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. College of the Redwoods was notified by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) on January 26, 2018 that the Commission had reaffirmed accreditation for seven years. On January 27, 2022 the Commission accepted the College's Midterm Report and determined that the intuition's progress was appropriate. The accreditation of College of the Redwoods is reaffirmed every six years. The College’s next comprehensive review will occur in the fall term of 2024. The public is invited to submit comments about College of the Redwoods to our accrediting commission by completing a third-party comment form on the ACCJC website. 

College of the Redwoods has a variety of programs accredited by outside agencies other than the ACCJC. Information relating to the accreditation, licensure, or approval program can be found at the Program Accreditation Website

Designated lower-division, baccalaureate-level courses at the College of the Redwoods are approved for transfer to all branches of the University of California (UC) and to all of the California State Universities (CSU).  College of the Redwoods is approved for the education of veterans under the provisions of public law. The information on this website is provided to our community to provide information about CR's accreditation status and activities as well as to provide general information about the accreditation standards and process.

2024 Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER) Preparation

Accreditation involves voluntary self-regulation and peer review. In this system the institution evaluates itself in accordance with standards developed by the ACCJC. The Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER) is the mechanism institutions use to report to their peers and that is evaluated for accreditation.

Q: What is accreditation?
Accreditation is the process by which educators and their peers work together to observe and improve the quality of education. College of the Redwoods’ accreditation is issued and re-evaluated by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC), which has accredited CR since 1967.  A student's course work at any accredited college is transferable to any other accredited educational institution; accreditation assures that the quality of education meets minimum standards.

Q: Is College of the Redwoods currently accredited?
Yes. CR is an accredited community college. Credits earned by students are transferable to other accredited institutions.

Q: What is CR's current accreditation status?
CR was notified in January 2018 that its accreditation was reaffirmed by the ACCJC for the full seven-year cycle, pending the submission of a follow-up report in 2019. The district submitted the report and the ACCJC reaffirmed accreditation for the full seven-year period.

Q: When is CRs next comprehensive accreditation visit?
A: CR will be visited by an ACCJC visiting team in fall 2024.
